DRIVER OPERATIONS WORKSPACE & ERGONOMICS

Electric taxi and bike driver operational workspace in Vietnam
CRITICAL CONSTRAINT:

Sub-500ms glanceability required under high ambient sunlight and road motion

INTERACTION & OPERATIONAL PIPELINE

01Visual Clarity
State & Availability

High-contrast status toggle with clear active shift indicators

02Information Hierarchy
Trip Offer Card

Fare, distance, and pickup anchor placed at prominent visual weight

03Touch Ergonomics
Dispatch Decision

Large primary touch target situated within thumb-reach zone

04Context Continuity
Navigation Hand-off

Immediate transition to map turn-by-turn with passenger notes overlay

05Operational Trust
Trip Finalization

Transparent receipt breakdown and shift earnings update

KEY DESIGN DECISIONS

Glanceability over detail density

Intentionally concealed secondary dispatch metadata so drivers can evaluate offers in under half a second safely.

One-handed thumb reach zone

Designed primary accept actions for the lower screen half to support single-handed phone mount operation.

EVALUATION & LEARNINGS

DESIGN INTENT

Minimize eye-off-road time during trip offers while maintaining high operational accuracy.

OBSERVED IMPACT

Substantially reduced mis-taps during transit and improved driver confidence during rapid decision windows.

RETROSPECTIVE LEARNING

Designing for field mobility requires designing for the physical environment: sun glare, single-handed reach, and road vibrations.

01 / The Challenge & Context

The Operational Problem

Electric taxi and bike drivers operate under harsh road conditions, high ambient sunlight, and rapid decision timeframes. Cluttered interfaces increase distraction and cause missed trips.

02 / System & Design Architecture

User Flow & Ergonomics

Driver heartbeat & availability state → Trip invitation card with glanceable fare/distance hierarchy → One-tap accept/reject touch target ergonomics → In-trip turn-by-turn transition → Post-trip receipt.

KEY TRADE-OFF // GLANCEABILITY OVER DETAIL DENSITYDe-prioritized secondary metadata during incoming trip offers to allow drivers to assess distance and fare within half a second safely.
03 / Verifiable Outcome & Learning

Impact & Retrospective

High touch-target accuracy during movement, reduced driver friction during trip acceptance, and clear earnings visibility at end of shift.

LEARNING:Designing for mobility operations requires designing for the physical environment—sun glare, one-handed grip, motorcycle handlebar vibrations, and rapid road context switching.
